Nashville 2012 Home Education Expo: The Rewards

Ok, so for the past 3 years I have anxiously awaited the Nashville Home Education Expo much like a child waiting for Christmas morning.  I love books.  I love the booths.  I love the fellowship with the people together with similar interests.  I also love meeting new people.  But what I really love... scoring some great deals!

This year was even more special because my hubby had agreed to take a vacation day and just the two of us went to scout out the deals.  He wore the big backpack and was the keeper of the money while I held on to my list that I had carefully plotted out over the previous few weeks which books I was interested in, what booths I thought I'd want to visit, and what publishing companies I wanted to keep my eyes open for.  My plan worked a little too well.  By lunch I was walking away with everything on my "need" list plus many on my "want" list.

So here's a run down of what all I collected on this fine day:

1.  Adventures in Odyssey: For God & Country - 12 Stories on Faith and American History.  I scored this great deal as we were leaving.  They had a sign up that these were on sale, cheaper than their sticker price, which made them cheaper than I could go buy them at LifeWay even with my 25% off coupons.
2.  Adventures in Odyssey: Star Spangled Stories - 2 full-length audio dramas from Focus on the Family - FREE with my purchase of the above CDs.  These CDs will go perfectly with our US History that we were studying this year.
3.  Drive Thru History with Dave Stotts: Soldiers, Jamestown, and Heroes of Virginia - This is a DVD series that I had heard great reviews.  Again, this will go great with our history lessons.  This was a bit of a splurge, as it was not on my list, but I really think my son will enjoy it.
4.  Teddy's Button from Lamplighter Theatre - Ok, so I saved on shipping with this purchase.  This will be a birthday gift.  These are more than just audio books, these are real theatre productions.  My kids have been listening to the free files online and really enjoyed these Christian classics.  I was excited to see the booth!  Just having a hard time waiting to give it to my son for his birthday!!
5.  Seeds Family Worship Sampler CD - 6 songs, one from each of their albums... FREE.  Visit the website for more info and to hear samples of their songs.  Bible Verses put to music, but NOT cheesy.
6.  Explode the Code - We are trying something new with phonics, so I stocked up at Rainbow Resource's booth.  Typically, CBD.com has the best pricing if you can catch their free shipping... which I also got their free shipping code while I was at the Expo!
7.  Manners Made Easy by June Hines Moore - 6 lessons on manners and etiquette with biblical lessons.  For ages 7-12, the price was too good to pass up.  We will be starting this book this summer.  Also found at Rainbow Resource's booth.
8.  Copybook II from Memoria Press - I really like the idea behind these books.  This is what we have been taking our Bible Memory from and doing our Bible lessons from the week's Bible verse.  I really like most things from Memoria Press!  Again, this came from Rainbow Resource's booth.
9.  Christian Liberty Nature Reader Book 2 - I knew most of my friends gave these books real high reviews in the past.  I was needing some good readers from my son, and this will be perfect!  Now I wish I had them all.  Anyone wanting to sale any that you have, I'm looking to buy!  Again, from Rainbow Resource's booth.
10. Concord Cunningham The Scripture Sleuth: Book 1 & 2 - These are a Christian Mystery Series for young readers were a young boy solves mysteries by using his knowledge or the Bible.  At the end of each short story it has questions and the Bible Verse that was used to solve the case.  In the back of the book it gives the answers and explains how each mystery was solved.
11.The Bible Smuggler by Louise A. Vernon - I try to get a book like this once a year to read to the kids.  The Bible Smuggler is about the story of William Tyndale and what was involved in getting the Bible translated into the English language.  Yet again, from Rainbow Resource's booth.
12. The Missing Popcorn and Other Stories by Grandmother Lois - What can I say about Rod & Staff books?  Typically, that booth is the one I make the most purchases.  I love their wholesome stories that teach the children Christian character.  This booth also typically sales out quickly of all their popular items.  But have no fear, if they do not have what you want in stock, they will happily ship it to you for free plus still give you the discount they give all their customers who purchase from their booth.
13.  Ruth: A Faithful Daughter-in-law - This book is for my daughter.  We love Rod & Staff's children's books and their prices are too good to pass up!  Typically, this is the booth that I meet all my friends throughout the day!
14. The History of Prayer in America by Fern Nilson - FREE
15. Exploring Creation with Zoology 1: Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day - I got a great deal on Apologia's Junior Journal for this book, too.

We also met a dear man who took the time to talk with me about my family and the Creation Museum.  He invited my family to come to the museum on his pass... all because I simply asked if he had any coupons for the museum.  The Lord is good!

All in all, the day was a success and I was so happy to share the day with my loving husband who is so supportive of our family's homeschool journey.
